I put this page up in October 2007 to make it easier for people to find Eric Scahill.

After moving to Australia from New Zealand in 1967, people started calling me by my first christian name (Des), rather than my
middle name of Eric. Seeing that my initials also spell DES, you can see I was fighting a losing battle, so in the end I just went
with the flow.
So if you are a Kiwi, you probably know me as Eric Scahill. If you are Australian you most likely know me as
Des Scahill. It seems to work okay - only once in my life have I been asked if I have a twin brother named Eric (grin). And I
answer quite happily to either depending which country I'm in.
I was adopted into the Scahill family and my adoptive mother Frances Scahill ( nee Lynds) was actually my aunty. My real parents were Amy and Howard Savage, Amy of course being France's older sister. I was thrilled recently to re-discover my natural brother Arthur Savage living at Don Bucks Road Massey, Auckland with his partner Lyn. We were already aware of each other as 'cousins', but had not been in contact for many years.
I never dreamed when I was a teenager at Northcote College in Birkenhead on the North
Shore of Auckland that I would end up spending much of my life in Brisbane, Australia.
Its funny how small events can cause our lives to go in new directions. A phone call, a chance
encounter; we never realise at the time how such seemingly small happenings will affect our life. Only much later we
recognise them as turning points.
There's another reason for this page though. Its also meant for a person who - unbeknownst to them - has held a place in my
thoughts and prayers for a very long time and especially recently.
When they read this page, (and I don't know when or if that will happen, but I very sincerely hope it will), it might well be at
a time when they need help or encouragement from a friend they've never known they had.
If you think that person is you - and there are a few very faint clues around that might help you be more
sure - then put your doubts and fears aside and email me at: desprivate@bigblue.net.au
If you want to write or phone me, click on
the 'Contact me' link in the menu on the left of this page. Thats where you'll find our latest address and phone numbers and I always keep that page up-to-date. We've moved recently so check now to make sure you have the latest info.
And oh... if you don't have your own email account, or are using someone elses computer, you can easily create an email account for yourself at http://www.yahoo.com and send me an email from there.
Don't forget to write down your user ID and password for your new yahoo email account though, or you'll never get to read my reply :-)
